What is the difference between FIRSTEK Marine battery and Car battery

"What's the difference between your Marine battery and your car battery?" It's a common question when we go to trade shows and introduce our batteries at any meeting. To answer this question, it is best to understand how sealed rechargeable lead-acid batteries are constructed. Lead acid batteries have a row of positive and negative lead plates, immersed in dilute sulfuric acid. When the battery is charged, there will be a chemical reaction between the positive and negative plates and the electrolyte, which will generate a charge and store it in the battery. Different thickness of the battery board is an indicator of the application, of which the battery is the most suitable.


Plates

There are different kinds of lead-acid batteries. Such as the general use of VRLA batteries, gel batteries, deep cycle batteries, automotive batteries and motorcycle batteries. Generally speaking, lead-acid batteries, gel batteries, deep circle batteries, front-end terminal batteries, 2V batteries and telecommunication batteries are all batteries. Automobile battery, automobile battery, marine battery, power motion battery and motorcycle battery are starter batteries. Their plates are very different. The battery plates are thicker, the number of plates is less, the starter battery plates are more, but the plates are thinner. In other words, deep cycle batteries have fewer plates, but the plates are heavier and thicker. Car batteries or starter batteries have more lead plates than deep cycle batteries, but the plates are much thinner. Voltage. The voltage of automobile battery is the same as that of marine battery. Most are powered by 12V DC. The first k battery is rated as Ca (starting current value) or CCA (cold starting current value), while the first k marine starting current value is rated as MCA (Marine starting current value). The quality of the first deep cycle marine battery will also have a reserve capacity (meaning RC) rating indicating how long the battery will lose power operation. Marine batteries can also discharge more frequently and deeply than car / truck batteries.


Car Batteries

Marine Batteries

There are two types of FIRSTEK marine batteries, one is standard marine battery, the other is deep cycle marine battery. Generally speaking, the marine battery is stronger than the automobile battery to prevent the damage caused by shaking and vibration when the ship is running on the water. Although stronger, standard ship batteries are not intended to discharge more than 50% of their capacity. Compared with ordinary marine batteries, FIRSTEK deep cycle marine batteries can discharge 80% continuously without any damage to the board. Safety

Whether it's car battery or marine battery, be careful when operating or charging. Lead acid batteries are very dangerous when a short circuit occurs. This is why professionals wear gloves and face protection in the event of dangerous shock, burn and explosion hazards. A common mistake is to short-circuit the battery terminals with metal tools, rings or watches, causing an unexpected shock. Although less common, another serious problem is skin burns caused by sulfuric acid explosion due to improper battery charging, such as improper charger, close to fire source or heat source. Ventilation is very important. When using lead-acid batteries, if you are not sure, be sure to seek professional advice instead of risking injury.

When does FIRSTEK car / car storage lead-acid battery need to be charged?

1. When the following circumstances cause the battery to lose energy, it should be recharged.

a) Vehicle or gas engine fault

b) the power supply of generator is insufficient

C) any electronic component has short circuit phenomenon


2. During the use, if the voltage is reduced by 1.75v, for example, from 6V to 5.25V, from 12V to 10.5V, or the electrolyte density is reduced to 1.170, the battery needs to be charged. When the battery is charged normally, what is the proper temperature of the electrolyte?

The temperature shall not exceed 45 ℃. When the temperature is close to 45 ℃, the charging shall be stopped or the charging current shall be halved. When the temperature is lower than 35 ℃, the charging can be continued.

3. How to judge whether the battery is fully charged and stops charging?

When a large number of bubbles are generated during charging, the single voltage is between 2.4V and 2.8V, and the electrolyte density increases to 1.280 + 0.005 (25 ℃, the density and voltage remain stable for 2-3 hours, and the battery is fully charged.


4. When the battery is charged, if the voltage reaches 2.4v-2.8v, the electrolyte density cannot reach 1.280 + 0.005 (what measures should be taken when the temperature is 25 ℃)?

When the density is low, adjust with the electrolyte whose density is 1.4. When the density is high, adjust with pure water until the accurate electrolyte proportion (1.26-1.28) is reached.

5. When should electrolyte be replenished?

In daily use, the height of electrolyte should be checked frequently to ensure it is above the minimum line. If there is no minimum line, the height of electrolyte shall be 10-15mm higher than the protection plate.


6. What measures should be taken in case of electrolyte shortage in winter and summer?

Sulfuric acid electrolyte with concentration of 1.05 should be supplemented in winter and water should be supplemented in summer.


7. How to deal with the discharged battery?

The discharged battery should be charged in time to prevent the anode from curing. In the cold season, they should always charge.
